Riding for kids
We are offering riding experience for every single guest - even for the smallest ones! The ride starts in the riding paddock and continues on the riding track around the farm. Our child friendly horses are led from the ground by a guide at all times, which makes it safe for any age.

Field ride
The one hour long Field tour leads to true Icelandic countryside views. We ride in the grazing fields and always have the glacier in sight. The pace is adjusted to the capabilities of our riders so this tour can be both calm and relaxing and surprisingly fast and fun!

Canyon ride

Our 2-hour Riverside ride is the perfect choice for anyone interested in leisurely riding in the serene Icelandic countryside. We ride alongside the large Tungufljót river, see Geysir erupting in the distance and cross small streams. This tour is especially smooth for young or first time riders, but can include some tölt if you're up to it!

Forest ride

Gullfoss ride
Riding to Gullfoss waterfall gives ultimate satisfaction if you're looking for nothing but the best panoramas. First, this ride goes along the majestic canyon of Hvítá river, then continues to the waterfall itself. At Gullfoss, the horses have a little break while our guests can admire the waterfall or have a cup of coffee at Gullfoss Cafe.

Riding FAQ
All the things you need to know before riding at Geysir Hestar!
How physically fit do I need to be to participate? Do I need to have previous riding experience?
Everyone is welcome, and you don't need previous experience! However, we suggest having a reasonable judgement of how fit and ready you are to sit in a saddle for a longer time. During the ride, we might have breaks, so you have to be able to get on and off the horse without assistance. For zero-experience riders, we advise to not do more than 2-hour tours.
What is the weight limit?
We take utmost care of our horses, therefore the maximum weight is 100kg or 200 lbs. We keep a right to refuse a rider if this rule is clearly violated.
How fast is the pace of the tours?
We always start with a walk - to warm up the horses and ourselves. If everyone in the group is comfortable, we try to speed up to tölt or even gallop! It all depends on riders' abilities, level of comfort, and safety.
What do I need to wear and bring with me?
You need to wear comfortable outdoor clothing and shoes. You will be outside, sitting relatively still, so you should wear enough to stay warm the whole length of the tour. We always suggest to not underestimate the Icelandic weather and prepare well.
Can I bring personal things on the ride?
You are welcome to bring small, non-bulky items fitting in your pockets like your phone, gloves, etc. We do not permit backpacks or big cameras on the ride. For longer rides, there is a chance to use saddle bags for your items, up for discussion with your guide. Please note that we don't bear any responsibility for damaged or lost items whilst riding.
Do you provide riding gear?
We will provide you with a fitting helmet and rain gear. We don't provide gloves, shoes, or riding clothes.
Can I bring my own riding gear?
You are welcome to do so! But due to the risk of spreading diseases, we have very strict biosecurity measures on what you can and cannot bring to Iceland. We require you to introduce yourself with the rules HERE.
What happens if the weather is bad - too rainy or windy?
Here in Iceland, we ride in any weather! But if we'll determine that the weather is indeed too bad for riding, we will notify you and offer a free cancellation or a chance to move the tour to another date.
How do cancellations work?
We offer free cancellation up to 48 hours before the ride. After that, we expect full coverage of the ride.
Is it possible to arrange a private ride?
Yes! We offer the possibility to arrange a private ride just for your family or group. This is also a great option if you are an experienced rider and want to secure a faster ride. The fee for a private ride is 4.500 ISK per person, on top of any tour base price. Please note that private tours are subject to availability.
